Division III

The driving-skill test, conducted on our own track

An accredited centre does not send a candidate to the RTO for the driving test. It conducts the test itself — on a circuit built to the specification Rules 31B to 31J fix, with the run recorded as it happens.

The centres are registered as Safe Road Training and Testing Center — both words, because both happen here.

How a run is taken

The same circuit, the same criteria, every candidate

The circuit
The figure-of-eight, a gradient, the reverse-S, angular and parallel parking bays, and a straight for controlled braking.
The control room
Every corner of the circuit is on camera. The run is scored from here, as it happens, rather than reconstructed afterwards.
The criteria
Fixed in advance by Rules 31B to 31J — the same for every candidate, and not set by whoever is standing at the cone.
The result
Recorded against the application and sent to the licensing authority, which is what acts on it.
The track control room during a session — the camera wall covering the circuit, the run being scored on the monitors
The run is scored from the control room, off the cameras, while it happens.

Where the licence comes from

We conduct the test and record the result against your application. The licence itself is issued by the licensing authority, typically 7 to 15 working days later.

Where

Two tracks open, 3 being built

The centres under construction are counted here and not named, as everywhere else on the site.

Booking a test, or a batch of them?

Tell us the class and the centre and we will come back with the dates the track is free. Fleets putting a group of drivers through at once are handled the same way, on dates that suit the depot rather than the counter.
